Full of joy and emotion, children of various schools around the country on Thursday celebrated the 32nd Environmental Information and Education Program organized by the Environment Ministry in coordination with the Education Ministry.


Presiding over the event were Environment Minister Jaime David Fernández Mirabal and Ricardo García, Director of the National Botanic Garden.

Students came from the Second Mile School, the Bávaro Municipal School from La Altagracia province; the José Gabriel García de Manzanillo school and from the educational centers of Pedro Antonio Pimentel, Las Matas de Santa Cruz and José Gabriel García from Castañuela in the Montecristi province.

Students also came from the Rafael Díaz Mieses primary school and the middle schools of Capotillo and Loma de Cabrera in the province of Dajabón; the Adolfina Peña School in El Salado and the Sor Juana Inés De La Cruz School in El Botao, Bahoruco.

Other participating schools included Majagual School from Cabral y Los Saladillos and Salinas Schools, both in the Barahona province. In addition, there were students from the basic schools of Narda Peña, Natividad and Padre Borbón and El Pomier from the San Cristóbal province. From Santo Domingo, the following schools sent children to the program: Los Casabes, Villa Mella, Fernando De La Cruz, Santo Domingo Norte and Carmen Celia Balaguer from the Los Alcarrizos municipality.

Several special guests also took part in the day’s events including Minerva Vincent de Camilo, Director of the International Cooperation Department and José Ramón Fadul, Minister of Interior and Police.


The artistic side of the day was taken care of by students from Leoncio Manzueta School who sang “La Basura al Zafacón” (Garbage in the Garbage Can) and the Cruz Grande de Villa Mella schoolchildren who sang a rap song also about garbage.

More than 8,000 students have participated in the Eco-Visits where they receive motivational information on caring for and preserving natural resources and biodiversity.


Throughout the day-long field trip, students visited the National Aquarium, the National Botanic Garden, the National Zoo and the Museum of Natural History as part of the Environmental Information and Education program.
