Economic Dining Halls Continue to Deliver Meals to Communities Affected by the Rains in Cotuí In the face of the threat to families living at the lower end of the Llagal Tailings Dam of the Barrick Gold mine in Cotuí, President Leonel Fernández ordered the Economic Dining halls to continue providing meals to those affected by the flowing waters of the Maguaca River caused by heavy rains in recent weeks. The hot meals are delivered to the dining halls in San Francisco de Macorís and La Vega, and from there they are distributed to those in need through the Civil Defense and Center for Emergency Operations (COE). Nicolás Calderón, General Administrator of the Dining Halls, reported that 400 hot meals are being delivered daily as of Thursday May 26. He said they will continue delivering the food until the emergency in the Sánchez Ramírez province is alleviated. The food deliveries are being managed by Ramón Jiménez, deputy administrator of the program in the Cibao region. The hot meals are delivered to the dining halls in San Francisco de Macorís and La Vega, and from there they are distributed to those in need through the Civil Defense and Center for Emergency Operations (COE). The communities benefitting from the food deliveries include Los Bocos, Zambrana Arriba, La Cerca, El Limpio, El Naranjo, Arroyo Vuelta, La Atravesada and El Riojo. | ||
