President Fernández said many people will circulate in this area, mostly young people from the new generations, “and through what they will see here, they will acquire knowledge that will awaken in them a curiosity and interest in our contemporary history.” Fernández said he is certain the interest stirred in the young people will awaken a sensibility of what happened here as well a guarantee to assure that nothing like this ever occurs again in the Dominican Republic – tyranny, oppression and dictatorship – and that the Dominican people will always enjoy a sense of prosperity, well-being and democracy. Another plaque of recognition was given to Luis Manuel Bonetti, Administrative Minister of the Presidency, “for his efforts in assuring that the museum was finished on time.” The museum will be administered by the National Federation of Patriotic Foundations which was founded with the idea of keeping alive the history of the struggle that took place here between 1916 to 1978, said Anulfo Reyes. The Memorial Museum to the Dominican Resistance opened to the public last week. The museum will be open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. The price of entry is RD$ 200 pesos for adults, RD$ 100 pesos for children under 12 years of age, adults over 65 and students with valid student ID. However, on the last Sunday of every month, the Museum is free of charge and open to the public. Following the cutting of the ribbon to officially open the Memorial Museum to the Dominican Resistance, President Fernández received an informational tour of the Museum, given by those in charge of this cultural center.
