Recognition for Outstanding Blind Students in the National Education System

The Olga Estrella National Center for Educational Resources for the Visually Handicapped recognized a group of young people with visual handicaps who are dedicated to song and music as their productive activity. The goal of the recognition is to strengthen their self-esteem and to help orient their personal development.


They also released the requirements and instructions for the Olga Estrella literary contest whose goal is to motivate students with visual handicaps to cultivate their passion for reading and literature.


The recognition was part of the national student meeting held to review the summer activities for blind and partially sightless students in the various levels of schools that are part of the national education system, according to the Ministry of Education’s Press Office.

The event, in which students showed off their artistic and musical projects, was introduced by Maria Pastora Reyes de Bueno, Director of the Center. Also present was Deputy Minister, Minerva Pérez, who is the director of the Orientation, Psychology and Attention to Diversity Department of the Ministry of Education (MINERD).


They also released the requirements and instructions for the Olga Estrella literary contest whose goal is to motivate students with visual handicaps to cultivate their passion for reading and literature.


All blind and partially-sighted Dominican citizens are eligible to participate in the contest. The categories are Children, Adolescents and Adults. The contestants’ work will be evaluated by a panel of judges made up of experts in literature as well as representatives of the Olga Estrella Center.


The Olga Estrella Center is part of the Ministry of Education and is responsible for orienting teachers to offer inclusive and quality education to the blind and limited-sighted community of students.


Recognition for Outstanding Blind Students in the National Education System  Aurelio de los Santos, a virtuoso saxophone player, receives an award for his musical talent.
