National Energy Commission announces advances in energy savings in public institutions The National Energy Commission announced the progress achieved in the evaluation process and in the monitoring for compliance with the directive issued by the President, Leonel Fernandez, for government institutions to save 10% of their monthly energy consumption due to the constant increases in oil prices in the international markets. Ramirez informed that currently dozens of institutions are being monitored, and that advice is offered to those institutions on what to do to manage their air conditioning units, and on the correct use of office lights, and lights in corridors and in other spaces such as parking lots, patios and others. The meeting was held in the Green Room of the National Palace and was chaired by the President of the National Energy Commission, Enrique Ramirez, and the director of Information, Press and Publicity of the Presidency, Rafael Núñez. During the event, Ramirez informed that since last March 17, when President Fernández issued the directive, many institutions already have submitted positive reports of significant energy savings. Ramirez explained that dozens of public and decentralized state institutions are being monitored to ensure that they adopt all necessary measures to achieve the goal of saving 10 percent of their monthly energy consumption. In this regard, he stressed that the work is being carried out through the electricity administrators, as informed by the Division of Information, Press and Publicity of the Presidency. Ramirez informed that currently dozens of institutions are being monitored, and that advice is offered to those institutions on what to do to manage their air conditioning units, and on the correct use of office lights, and lights in corridors and in other spaces such as parking lots, patios and others. Work is also being done on the type of bulbs that are used and on proper wiring, in order to reduce energy loss and to lower costs. The President of the National Energy Commission reported that they are working with more than 265 institutions, where energy managers monitor and provide guidance on the proper use of electrical equipment so that they are used only as needed. During the meeting, which was held in the Green Room of the National Palace, testimonials were offered on the reduction of energy costs in institutions such as the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications, the National Institute of Water and Sewage, the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Treasury, the Ministry of the Interior and Police, the Dominican Corporation of State Electrical Companies (CDEEE), and the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), among others. | ||
