VII International Theater Festival Santo Domingo 2011 to Open Soon The Ministry of Culture, through the Office of National and International Theater Festivals, announced the VII International Theater Festival (FITE) Santo Domingo 2011 which, this year, has made Spain the Guest of Honor. The Festival will be inaugurated on Thursday June 16 with a parade of carnival performers and the Chuchu Tren. The parade will step off from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and end on the esplanade of the Palace of Fine Arts at 6 PM. The event will bring together theater groups from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Israel, Peru, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. The festival, being coordinated by actress Karina Noble, seeks the consolidation of country’s theater movement as support for the various manifestations of theater and the promotion of values in Dominican society through theater. There will be more than 40 performances that will bring together Dominican theater companies, the well-known as well as the emerging groups. Among them are: Teatro Rodante, National Theater Company, Casa de Teatro, Giovanny Cruz Produces, the Other Theater, Iván García Presents, Saturated Movement and the Papalote Creative Workshop. There will also be the Alternative Theater, Cresta Azul, Theater with no Name, Theater of the Trades, Guloya Theater, Ícaro Theater, Awilda Polanco/bló a bló, La Veladora Theater, Productions Hony Estrella, Anacaona Theater, Machepa Theater, Víctor Pinales Produces and Puestas Adentro. International theater companies include: Gestual de Chile Theater; Metrayeta y Murmuyo Clowns, Fractal Theater, Corporación Arca de Noé, Yoruva, Papalote, La Trinchera, Theater of the Sky, Cia., Yossi Berg & Oded Graf, Tropa del Eclipse, Akeké Circus Theater and Rajatabla. Spanish theater companies include Grupo Flamenco Al Sur Del Sur, Factoría Theater, The Theater De L’Homme Dibuixat, Kulunka Theater, Theater Abrego and Puppets of Binéfar, Theater performances will be held in the following venues: Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts; Carlos Piantini Hall; Ravelo Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater; the Monina Solá Theater of the Narciso González Cultural Center; the Mauricio Báez Cultural Center auditorium; the Theater House; the Guloya Theater; the Haffe Serulle Experimental Hall; the Cultural Center of Santiago and the Auditorium of the Children’s Library of the Dominican Republic, among other venues. The Festival will be inaugurated on Thursday June 16 with a parade of carnival performers and the Chuchu Tren. The parade will step off from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and end on the esplanade of the Palace of Fine Arts at 6 PM. Later there will be a formal event at the Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall which will culminate in the introduction of the Spanish Flamenco group Al Sur del Sur (To the South from the South).
