Exhibition in Honor of Playwright Iván García Guerra The retrospective will feature photographs, videos, books, awards, costumes and set designs illustrating the expansive 56 year-career of the Dominican actor, director and playwright. The Ministry of Culture, through the Office of National and International Theater Festivals, announced that the VII International Theater Festival (FITE) is organizing ¨Huellas de un Maestro¨ (Footprints of a Master) Exhibition dedicated to Iván García, to whom this year’s Theater Festival is dedicated. The retrospective will feature photographs, videos, books, awards, costumes and set designs illustrating the expansive 56 year-career of the Dominican actor, director and playwright. Mr. García Guerra has won numerous awards throughout his illustrious career including: the National Cristóbal de Llerena Theater Prize for his plays “Andrómaca” and “Memorias de abril” (“Memories of April: 2002); “Un Dorado”; “Siete Casandra” and “Dos Talía de Plata.” The Presidency of the Republic decorated García Guerra with the Order of Juan Pablo Duarte Award and the Recognition of Professional Excellence in its first edition. In 2002, he was exalted to the Supreme Silver Circle by the Jaycees International as well as the Lumiere 2002 Award for his life’s work in the theater. His major theater pieces are: “Más allá de la búsqueda” (Beyond the Search), “Don Quijote de todo el mundo” (Don Quijote of the Whole World), “Un héroe más para la mitología” (Another Hero for Mythology), “Los hijos del Fénix” (Children of Fenix), “Fábula de los cinco caminantes” (The Fable of Five Walkers), “Los tiranos” (The Tyrants), “Interioridades” (Private Matters), “Andrómaca”, “Soberbia”, “Solitud”, “Un puente a la esperanza” (A Bridge to Hope), “Entre la Paz y la Paz” (Between Peace and Peace), “Natifixión”, “Siglo XX” (20th Century), “Vivir, buena razón” (Living, A Good Reason), “Memorias de abril” (Memories of April) and “Otros retratos” (Other Portraits). Some of these have been performed in Latin America as well and the United States and Europe. The exhibition is being held in the Lobby of the Eduardo Brito National Theater and will be opened until June 26. Iván García Guerra. |
