GMO Holds Film Law Forum: “Investment Perspective” Leonel Melo Guerrero, General Director of GMO, a consulting firm, stressed that the Film Law, passed last Tuesday by the Executive Branch and by Presidential Decree number 370-11, which establishes regulations for its implementation, creates a new legal framework that will improve growth opportunities and the expansion of this industry in the Dominican Republic. Melo Guerrero made that statement while speaking at the “Film Law: investment perspective” forum, organized by GMO, and which took place this past Wednesday in the Garden Tent of the Ambassador Hotel. The forum brought together local and foreign film developers from the public and private sectors, as well as potential investors from the film industry, who analyzed the most important aspects of Law No. 108-10 of July 29, 2010, as well as the investment opportunities the Law represents for the country. Mr. Melo Guerrero described the Law and the Decree as “two new and interesting legal instruments aiming to promote filming of local and international motion pictures in the country, and that the required investments to do this be properly channeled through an intelligent system of incentives, which should be modeled after successful international experiences.” Laura Castellanos of FUNGLODE, presented the background, overview and organizational scheme of the Film, while Monika Melo Guerrero and Marianna Vargas, of OMG , were in charge of the “Incentives policy: Film Law innovations and comparative study with other districts.” Leticia Tonos, producer; Jaime Piña, of Indomina; and Peyi Guzman, of the Dominican Association of Professionals in the Film Industry (Adocine), participated in the panel on the Legal Framework. Producer Jose Pintor (Pinky) analyzed the “Changes in the film industry: new ways of doing business”; Omar de la Cruz, of FUNGLODE, focused on the “Development and promotion of the Dominican culture through cinema”; Anthony Smith, of the Indomina Group, spoke on the “Impact of the Film Industry in the Economy,” and Aguie Lendore, of CEI-RD, addressed “Foreign Investment Perspective.” Alfonso Rodriguez, producer; Manuel Corripio of the Corripio Communications group; Ricardo Hazoury of the Cap Cana group; and Juan Vicini of the VICINI group, participated in the Film Industry panel. | ||
