Seminar on Climate Change The Ministry of Environment, with the support of the Program for Environmental Protection of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), held a seminar called, “The Impact of Climate Change on Coastal Regions.” Participating countries were the United States, Cuba, Spain, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The objective was to share tools to for an adequate adaptation of climate change in the coastal areas through an exchange of knowledge and experience provided by national and international experts. Researchers, environmental science professionals, professors and university students, local and municipal government officials, governmental and non-governmental organizations attended the seminar where they shared experience and knowledge on the topic of coastal marine issues. The objective was to share tools to for an adequate adaptation of climate change in the coastal areas through an exchange of knowledge and experience provided by national and international experts. In addition, the seminar sought to incentivize and motivate the spirit of research on the impact of climate change and its environmental consequences, to encourage the adoption of public policies and to raise awareness among the population. With this interchange of experience, the Minister of Environment seeks to encourage the development of national capacities toward the goal of adopting climate change measures in the coastal areas. Throughout the two-day seminar, there were conferences and expert panels, exposition of the results of various research endeavors and a visit to a coastal area to exchange and compare, in greater detail, the shared strategies of adaption to global climate change. | ||
