Culture Ministry Gives $18 Million Pesos to the National Symphony Orchestra The Dominican Ministry of Culture gave $18 million pesos to the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) to offset expenses incurred as part of the Orchestra´s general restructuring process, which began in 2009. “The National Symphony Orchestra, with each passing day, is one of the most solid institutions of its type in the entire region, with high musical standards and quality as well its capacity to offer its members decent salaries,” “This financial support from the central government is allocated every six months, strictly fulfilling the planned reorganization of our Orchestra in the areas of technology, music and administration,” said Culture Minister, José Rafael Lantigua. “The National Symphony Orchestra, with each passing day, is one of the most solid institutions of its type in the entire region, with high musical standards and quality as well its capacity to offer its members decent salaries,” said the Minister. He added that ¨the government of President Leonel Fernández has faithfully fulfilled its promise to carry through with all stages of this reorganization process. At this moment, we can truly say that we are undergoing a golden age with our Symphony Orchestra.¨ ¨The musicians of the NSO receive their regular monthly salaries and every six months they receive their negotiated extra month´s salary that corresponds to the period between January and June and the end of December, which corresponds to the second half of the year,¨ explained Mr. Lantigua. As Minister of Culture, José Rafael Lantigua gave the government contribution to Orchestra Director, Maestro José Antonio Molina.
