Artists Selected for the 26th National Visual Arts Biennale Works of art from different genre and disciplines were recently selected for the 26th National Visual Arts Biennale which will be inaugurated at the Museum of Modern Art on August 16th at 7:00 PM. In the pottery and ceramic category, Natalia Ortega was chosen with her piece known as “Estructura Modular.” In performing arts: Jochi Muñoz with “Reeducando a Jochi: Su primera lectura de carta…”; Eliú Almonte, “La casa”; David Pérez with “Karmadavis: Retén en reposo”; Sayuri Guzmán, “Borrando mi sombra” and Elvin Díaz, “Ser o No ser.” Finally, the following installations were chosen: Genaro Reyes (Cayuco ) with “Depredación nacional”; Miguel Ramírez, “Tierra en tronco” and “Botija, memorias del agua”; Anabelle Pérez with “Trúcamelo”; Diógenes Abreu, “Naturaleza muerta con paisaje de fondo”; Marcos Lora Read, “Tributo a los desaparecidos”; Francisco Rodríguez with “Mi = Muro; Julianny Ariza, “Solo mientras sueño, me encuentras”; Elvin Díaz, “El Túnel”; Charo Oquet, “En un abrir y cerrar los ojos”; Paolat de la Cruz, “Absorción de memoria del espacio”; Raquel Paiewonsky, “Manos”; Michelle Ricardo, “Retórica de Isla (por tu gran culpa)”; Eleomar Puente, “Sueños tejidos”; Johnny Bonnelly, “Las gallinas de los huevos de nieve”; Raúl Morilla, “Convinando el sosiego” and Engel Leonardo, “Sin Título.” The Jury, comprised of Dominicans, Danilo de los Santos and Carlos Acero Ruiz, and Spain’s Ricardo Ramón Jarne, explained that the work was based on five rounds of review in which all the work was evaluated within each one of the different categories in the restricted space of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), all done with absolute discretion. Once the work of selection was finished, the Jury put together a panel in the Auditorium of the MOMA where art critic Gamal Michelén acted as moderator. Those invited expressed their concerns about the methods used in the selection process that is part of the 26th National Visual Arts Biennale. |
