Buen Vivir (Good Living) Productions opened its fourth edition of the tastiest event in the Caribbean: Sweet Santo Domingo, all the profits of which are designated to go to the Dr. Heriberto Pieter Volunteer Oncology Institute.


During Sweet Santo Domingo, a special recognition was made in honor of the Rodríguez Sweetshop for it contribution to Dominican pastry culture with their sweet criollos.


This year, they recognized different personalities for their contributions and constant collaboration in the different events undertaken by the Buen Vivir Group. Those recognized were: Marianne Eckhardt from Mercasid; Miguel Franjul Pérez from Franjul Corporativa, S.A.; Magnolia Concepción from Landestoy and owner of Excelencias & Eventos and Virna Reynoso.

During Sweet Santo Domingo, a special recognition was made in honor of the Rodríguez Sweetshop for it contribution to Dominican pastry culture with their sweet criollos.


The Tourism Ministry’s Folklore Ballet group performed at the opening event of Sweet Santo Domingo. They performed dance and music which reflects Dominican culture. Sweet Santo Domingo also had support from the National Council on Competitiveness and the Tourism Cluster of Santo Domingo.


Luisa Feliz, president of the Buen Vivir Group, said “the objective of Sweet Santo Domingo this year is the pride and joy of being Dominican, where our professionals in gastronomy can work with products from our own land, keeping us on the path to sustainability while strengthening an industry that seeks unity among all sectors who wish to elevate the Dominican Republic on all levels.”


There was an abundance of creativity and exquisite creations done by distinguished pastry chefs, masters of chocolate and artisans in the making of sweet criollos. The exhibition of creative sweetness was done by Miriam de Gautreaux, Mily Pimentel of Cake Studio and Isabel Morel of Nené Repostería. Presiding over chocolate hall was Ariel Peñalva. The sweet criollos were being made by Rosario Rodríguez from Criollisimos.


A new event this year was the First Dominican Pastry Cup in which students from different universities competed for the much sought-after Master Pastry Maker.
Participants at this year’s Sweet Santo Domingo event were: Dulcería Luciano, Cake Studio, Premium Bakery, Dulcería El Húngaro, Homemade Treats, Pilones Dominicanos, Little Desserts, Criollísimos, Helados El Pirata Barba Roja, Jobuz, Nené Repostería, Antico Eremo and Bocados Pastelería.
