Remodeled Children´s Values Park at the Dominican Medical College Ready for Use The park was remodeled and equipped at a cost of $ 1,650.748.52 Dominican pesos with children´s educational games, toys and equipment that will help to develop their skills and coordination while having fun. Pleased to be providing a space for children to have fun while learning and where they can lift their spirits in doing so, the First Lady said, “I would say it is like nourishing the mind to keep the body healthy.” First Lady Margarita, Cedeño de Fernández, handed over the totally remodeled Children´s Values Park in the Members Club of the Dominican Medical College. The park is a space dedicated to recreation and learning. Mrs. Margarita Cedeño de Fernández said she was happy to visit the installations of the Dominican Medical College. This is the first time a First Lady has paid a visit to this organization but she said it will not be the last; she promised to continue working with the physicians in an effort to bring adequate and humane public health to the Dominican people. She said people with low or no incomes are those who use public hospitals and it is this group of people she intends to help by improving the hospitals and health centers as well as service provided by the administrative and medical staff. She added that this is one of the important reasons for developing and maintaining good relations with representatives of this medical organization. “I am very happy to be here and thankful that you have given me the opportunity to contribute something to the children of the doctors of the Medical College and that we will continue with this alliance which is linked to the development of the country, such as education and health,” said the First Lady. Details about the Park Remodeling the park and playground equipment came to a total of $ 1,650.748.52 Dominican pesos. The park is 509.8 square meters in size. It includes an area with games and playground equipment, an area to repair and replace the equipment, renovated grounds, a perimeter fence, a gazebo and renovation of the lighting and garden area. At the entrance, the Book of Values greets the children who come in to play. They identify with it and learn the value of loving their neighbors through images, stories, letter soups games, question games and other educational activities. They also learn the importance of responsibility, honesty, tolerance, humility, respect, dignity, hope, peace, faith, integrity, social justice and solidarity. The book at the entrance is a galvanized 34.29 x 60-inch structure with full-color vinyl, two-sided pages. The Recreational Space is 28.5 square meters, air-conditioned and equipped with work tables and children’s chairs, age-appropriate storybooks and such educational games as Chess, Learning about Your Body, Counting from 1-10 as well as blocks, cork games and other educational and fun games and toys. In addition, there is a corner with traditional toys such as stuffed animals, dolls, cars and balls The project was carried out by engineers and architects from the Executive Special Projects Unit of the Office of the First Lady which is in charge of equipping and remodeling structures that will benefit people of low incomes and limited resources.
