Emergency Pediatric Wing to be Built in the Dr. Arturo Grullón Regional Hospital of Santiago Children from low income families will be given personalized attention in this new pediatric wing under the care of experienced medical personnel. This modern Emergency section of the hospital will have the necessary medical equipment to offer high quality attention to children, including an interconnected oxygen system, totally controlled air, an independent electrical system in the hospital with its own generator, among other modern technological services. Dominican First Lady, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, broke ground for the construction of the Emergency Pediatric wing of the Doctor Arturo Grullón Regional University Children’s Hospital in Santiago. It is a project that will greatly improve health services for the residents of this and surrounding provinces. This modern Emergency section of the hospital will have the necessary medical equipment to offer high quality attention to children, including an interconnected oxygen system, totally controlled air, an independent electrical system in the hospital with its own generator, among other modern technological services. The Víctor Fondeur & Associates Engineering Firm, SRL will be working under the supervision of the personnel of the Executive Unit for Projects of the Office of the First Lady (DPD in Spanish). The Doctor Arturo Grullón Regional University Children’s Hospital has 134 medical specialists who are providing their services to the children of Santiago and the entire northern region. There will be 253 available beds and 17 additional cots. Since First Lady Cedeño de Fernández took over the DPD, she has been deeply concerned about children’s health issues and has pushed for children to receive adequate medical attention at the hands of pediatric specialists which inspired her to build pediatric emergency medical centers in all the hospitals around the country. Her goal is that all children have access to and receive specialized medical service when in need. The DPD has built 12 pediatric emergency medical centers in the following hospitals: the Central Armed Forces Hospital, the Dr. Moscoso Puello, the Municipal Hospital of Engombe, the Dr. Ramón de Lara Military Hospital, Dr. Darío Contreras Hospital, Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Hospital, the Dr. Pascasio Toribio Hospital, the Municipal Hospital of Salcedo, the provincial Hermanas Mirabal Hospital and the Mothers and Children’s Hospital of Boca Chica, in the Municipal District of San Andrés, the Municipal District of Yamasá, and the Ricardo Limardo Hospital of Puerto Plata. The most recent hospital to be inaugurated was in the municipality of Castillo, San Francisco de Macorís.
