Culture Ministry Will Present 15 Books from Writers in Eight Communities in the Southern Region Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 10/3/2011
Throughout the month of October, the Ministry of Culture will develop an intense program of new book presentations from the Ediciones Rumbo Sur and from the Colección Provincias publishing houses.
These books were launched at the Book Fair but now will be put into circulation in each of the communities where the selected authors are from.
These 15 books, corresponding to 16 writers from the Southern Region, were published as part of the recent Regional Book Fair now in its 7th year in Barahona.

In Barahona, they will present “Brujas en el jardín” once again, which is a selection of stories from journalist/writer Oscar López Reyes which will also be selected to be presented in Santo Domingo where the author resides. Also to be presented in Santo Domingo: “Historia de Barahona 1801-1900,” by Welnel Darío Feliz and the novel “El amor se fue de viaje” by José de Rosamantes.
In San Juan de la Maguana, two books will be put into circulation: “Símbolos de la identidad sanjuanera” by Bismar Galán and José Enrique Méndezy and “Las calles de San Juan, Biografía de la ciudad” by Carlos V. Castillo Mateo.
En Azua, several important books are being put into circulation: “Destellos históricos de Azua” by Eddie R. Noboa Bonilla; the novel “El ladrido de los perros” by Limberg Báez and the book of poetry, “Lamentos y otros preludios” by the late Carlos A. Sención Noboa.
En Baní, there will be a special event to present “Sabana Buey, cuartel general del sur dominicano” by Francis de los Santos; and the book of poetry “Testamento de amor para la ciudad fría,” by Pablo Isidro Polanco González.
In San Cristóbal two books of poetry will be presented: “Intimo” by the late poet, Aníbal Montaño and “Toda mujer” by Ninoska Martínez.
A book of poetry, “Tiempo después” by Julio Gómez will be presented in Cabral; “Cuentos cortos para una noche” by Fernando Fernández Duval and the “Villa Helada, el legado del viaje sin fin” by the young writer Carlos Gabriel Pérez.
The 15 books that will be presented are part of the publishing unit of the Ministry of Culture (MINC), Rumbo Sur, geared exclusively for writers of the region, and the Colección Provincias of the National Publishing Company.
At the moment, the MINC has published a total of 62 books from writers in the interior of the country, 36 of them from the Colección Provincias and 26 of them from Rumbo Sur Publishing (South).In addition to Rumbo Sur Publishing, the MINC has the Rumbo Norte Publishing (North) and Rumbo Este Publishing (East), so that writers in these regions can get their literary work published after being checked for quality.
The book presentations in the 8 communities will be coordinated by the National Publisher and the Directorate General of the Book Fair whose directors, the poet León Félix Batista and academic Alejandro Arvelo, have determined that “what has been done in the way of book publications within the cultural gesture of the government of President Leonel Fernández is a true revolution in the Dominican Republic because it is the first time that anyone has showed so much interest in publishing writers from the provinces with the projection of these publishing units being dedicated exclusively to printing, publishing and promoting these literary pieces.”
