Ministry of Education Distributes Laptops to School Directors Education Minister, Josefina Pimentel, distributed laptops and wireless devices for wide band Internet to a group of school directors in the Ministry´s commitment to support public schools. The distribution of this equipment is part of the School Connected program developed by the Ministry of Education (MINERD in Spanish), which seeks to supply the more than 8,000 schools with laptop computers and wireless Internet connection which will be used to organize all information in the school buildings, such as student registration, physical conditions in the school building, the academic calendar, teacher assignments and student grades. Throughout the activity, Minister Pimentel stressed that these actions are part of the crux of the Ministry´s plan: Institutional Strengthening, Quality and Social Dialogue. She stressed the importance of the school directors having access to and knowledge of these technical tools in that they are the promoters of the country´s educational system and that it is in everyone´s interest to be certain it is efficient and properly controlled for the improvement of education. These school directors have been trained in the areas of Management System of Educational Centers (SGCE in Spanish) and in such computer system as Office, word processors, spreadsheets, data and projection bases, MINERD´s unified communication system, the Educating Portal and digital teaching resources.
