Culture Ministry Will Present Four Books at the Close of Poetry Month The Ministry of Culture will close Poetry Month with the presentation of four complete works of poetry by Mariano Lebrón Saviñón, Lupo Hernández Rueda, Manuel Valerio and Antonio Lockward Artiles. The activity, Friday October 28, will be held at the Museo de las Casas Reales at 8 PM. Poets Basilio Belliard and León Félix Batista, Director the Literary Program and the National Publishing House (Editora Nacional), respectively, will oversee the presentations. The books of poetry bring together the life work of these four important writers under the titles ¨Coral de sombras¨ by Manuel Valerio; “Desde un prado luminoso” by Mariano Lebrón Saviñón; “Te agradezco mi soledad” by Antonio Lockward Artiles and “El fuego y la palabra, Antología” by Lupo Hernández Rueda. The Ministry of Culture, with this event, will officially close Poetry Month which included the successful III International Poetry Festival and a special homage to Dominican poet, Manuel del Cabral, who launched his complete work of poetry under the title “Presencia inmaterial” (Immaterial Presence). The National Ballet Company also gave a performance based on the poetry of Manuel del Cabral, to whom the Poetry Festival was dedicated. They also performed their signature piece, “Los colores de la danza” based on the work of renowned national poets and paintings by important artists. Manuel Valerio, native of San Pedro Macoris and affiliated with the La Poesía Sorprendida (Surprised Poetry) movement, directed the Los Juglares literary group and the magazine, Revelación. He passed away in 1979 at the age of 61. Mariano Lebrón Saviñón is one of the founders of La Poesía Sorprendida. He was president of the Dominican Academy of Language. He is 89 years old. In recognition of his poetry, essays and academic work, he received the National Award for Literature. Lupo Hernández Rueda, 81 years old, belongs to the Generation of ’48. He founded, along with Luis Alfredo Torres and Alberto Peña Lebrón, the cultural magazine, Testimonio and coordinated the “Silbo vulnerado” collection. He is also a recipient of the National Award for Literature. Antonio Lockward Artiles, 68 years old, was part of the Cultural Front that surfaced during the April 1965 revolution. He is also among the founders of the literary group known as La Isla, created in 1967. In addition to poetry, he is a short story writer, novelist and essayist. | ||
