The FUNGLODE / GFDD publication prompted an exchange with reporters, specialists in environmental issues, teachers and students


Two books were raffled during the ceremony. The winners were Tony Saint-Hilaire and Luis Diaz.


(Santiago, October 27, 2011) .- Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister organization in the United States, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), presented the Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment in this city, last Wednesday, the 26th.

Omar Ramirez, Director of the Center for Environmental and Sustainable Development Studies, and Catherine Florentino, Coordinator of FUNGLODE’s Program of Educational Activities, led the presentation of the publication, which took place in the Moses Zouain bar at the Gran Teatro del Cibao.

At the head table they were accompanied by the Deputy Minister of the Environment, Domingo Rodriguez, who praised the book’s contributions, and by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Emenegildo Peña, who moderated the presentations.

Environmental specialists, communicators, and professionals and students from various fields who were interested in the subject, also participated in the event.

With this publication FUNGLODE / GFDD achieve the goal of making the national natural resources known and contribute to the creation of greater awareness about their importance and their preservation for future generations. The book was launched in Santo Domingo last September.

The book has 712 terms, 19 subject areas, 700 photos, 58 tables, 123 figures and 200 photos of the Dominican Republic.

The institutions that collaborated in this project are: the Ministries of the Environment and Natural Resources, Education, Tourism, and Agriculture; the National Institute of Water Resources; The Nature Conservancy, the Organization of American States; the National Zoological Park; the National Botanical Garden; the Dominican National Aquarium; the Jaragua Group; the United Nations Program for Development; the United Nations Environment Program; the Academy of Sciences of the Dominican Republic; and the National Bureau of Meteorology.
