Ministry of Education Creates a Follow-Up Commission for Renovation of Republic of Argentina School

The Ministry of Education is creating a commission to do follow-up on the repair and renovation on the Republic of Argentina School. The commission, which will also contribute improving the learning atmosphere, will be made up of members of a group known as the Libertarios and the educational community.

The decision was announced following a meeting held by Education Minister, Josefina Pimentel, with representatives of a group of young people as well as Deputy Ministers of School Construction, William Sifres and Emilia Pereyra of the Office of Communications and Public Relations.

Throughout the meeting, Minister Pimentel took into consideration the interest expressed by the young people in improving the education system. She said the initiative and school renovation they are encouraging reflects a healthy interest on the part of society to get involved in the search for solutions to problems of general interest.

When the meeting ended, participants held a press conference in which the engineer, William Sifres, said that major repair work will be getting underway shortly and that it will include a new paintjob, the application of impermeable material on the building and the repair of electric and sanitation systems.

He said the work contract includes the renovation of 32 classrooms in the school. The first phase of the work will deal with 12 classrooms which, once completed, the remaining rooms will be renovated. The work is being divided up like this so as not to disturb the children´s class time. He added that last weekend, 22 classrooms underwent minor repairs in the areas of lighting and bathrooms.

Deputy Minister Emilia Pereyra said the concerns expressed by the young people were very productive and that from their suggestions came many ideas to improve the future of education.

Speaking as a member of the Libertarios, Fernando Gil said the follow-up commission will be formed the following week at an activity their group is holding at the school and that it will be attended by architects, engineers, students and others linked to the education field.

Deputy Minister Emilia Pereyra added that representatives from the educational community will be on the commission and that the follow-up work will be coordinated through the Office of Community Education of the Education Ministry.
