Three Solo Exhibitions at Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo The Ministry of Culture and the Museum of Modern Art will inaugurate three individual exhibitions in November in various areas around the museum. The three shows include “Ensimismado” by Raúl Morilla; “¿Quién tiene la razón?” by Carlos Hinojosa and “Retrospective” by José Rincón Mora. “Quién tiene la razón” (Who is Right?”) by Carlos Hinojosa is the title of the exhibition and one of the artist’s most recent works. “Quién tiene la razón” (Who is Right?”) by Carlos Hinojosa is the title of the exhibition and one of the artist’s most recent works. It will be on display beginning on November 22nd at 7:00 pm on the first floor of the Museum of Modern Art. The work of Hinojosa, who has won many prizes for his paintings, can be found in private as well as corporate collections here in the DR as well as abroad. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts under the tutelage of such masters as Domingo Liz and Gaspar Mario Cruz . He soon began to develop his own personal style in his work as he demonstrated a profound and powerful expressive force in his paintings which are an explosion of subtle mystery and varied imagination about loneliness, the marginalized and about gender in a conceptual and esthetic art form. At the same time, “Ensimismado” by Raúl Morilla, will be on display in the Sala de Proyectos, (Projects Gallery) where the artist will present a video installation that evokes individualism, alienation and egotism, states in which the human race currently exists and which affect nature while carrying out its part as well. Morilla is an architect by profession and holds two post graduate degrees in Building Administration and another in Art History, with a sub-specialty in Dominican Art. He has done various courses and workshops in painting at such places as the Jarabacoa School of Fine Arts and Altos de Chavón. He has had group as well as one-man exhibitions and received national and international recognition including awards at the 2007 National Biennial, the Museum of Modern Art, the XXII Biennial E. León Jimenes Installation Prize and an award from the León, Santiago, DR 2008 Cultural Center. José Rincón Mora’s “Retrospective” will open on November 29th. The artist will show work he did in Germany where he resides part time when he is not in his native Santo Domingo. The exhibition, with a mystical overtone, includes over one hundred pieces of art and architectural projects set up in interesting patterns The painter, carver, illustrator and stained glass artist merges his talent with admirable harmony in the Mora Hall of the Museum. His art has been seen in various countries such as Spain, France, Greece and Italy since he was a young man. He has been called one of the greatest painters in the Americas and the greatest Dominican painter of the century. The Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic is located on Pedro Henríquez Ureña Avenue, Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza. Museum hours are: Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. | ||
