Some 3,000 samples of medications were delivered to the Ministry of Women by Emil Báez Marranzini, OTC Manager of Laboratorios Unión, to the office of Minister Germán. Alejandrina Germán said between January to October of this year, 2011, the Minister of Women has provided protection to 118 women and 144 children in their Shelters or Refuge Centers which implies a large financial outlay as the Shelter must provide the victims and their children with food, milk, disposable diapers and medication when necessary. Supplying all of these needs places a heavy burden on the Ministry. “I would like to sincerely thank the executives of Laboratorios Unión, and Emil Báez Marranzini, for their contribution in helping us care for the victims of gender and domestic violence. This donation demonstrates an awareness of the issue and a willingness to contribute to the struggle against this problem that affects all of Dominican society,” said the Minister of Women. Emil Báez Marranzini said the executives of Laboratorios Unión are very concerned about the situation of domestic violence that affects many women in the DR. Once they learned about the work of the Ministry of Women through the Shelters or Refuge Centers, they decided to contribute to this noble cause and be part of this life-saving effort.. Báez Marranzini said that Laboratorios Unión will supply all medication necessary to the Ministry of Women for the Shelters and as often as the Ministry needs it. As a prevention and protection mechanism, the Ministry of Women founded the women’s Shelters which offer protection, legal services and psychological treatment for female victims of violence and their children. Throughout 2010, the Shelters offered protection, legal services and psychological treatment to 177 victims of extreme violence: 64 women and 113 children. They offered training workshops to 358 people in the service of Prevention and Attention to Violence in the provinces of the Northern and Southern regions. In 2011, 118 women and 144 children came to stay at the Shelters from provinces as far away as Dajabón, Azua, Barahona and San Juan as well as La Vega, Santiago, San Pedro, Mao, the National District, Bonao, Salcedo, Moca, Puerto Plata, and other places. The medications donated include Clomak, Fercom (an iron supplement), Luzaxole, Metres plus (metronidazole – for the treatment of amebas) and Tracyl (an antibiotic), Kamladol (for pain), Bye Flu (flu symptoms), Coraspir 81mg (low-dose aspirin to prevent heart attack and circulatory problems) and Bromhexina (a cough expectorant) | ||
