Government of Taiwan Donates 1.6 Million Pesos to National Conservatory of Music Through its Embassy in the Dominican Republic, the government of Taiwan donated 1.6 million pesos to the National Conservatory of Music and gave a van to the National Artisans Center. … “It is a great honor to be able to continue strengthening the ties of collaboration with the Dominican Republic through the Ministry of Culture with which, in 2011, we have jointly developed cultural projects that have brought the cultures of our two countries closer together.” The donation will be earmarked to purchase an air conditioning system for the Juan Francisco García Hall of the Conservatory´s main building. This will make it easier to hold more activities, festivals, concerts, graduations and many other artistic events at the Conservatory. The cash donation was given by the Ambassador from Taiwan in the DR, Isaac Tsai to Bernarda Jorge, Deputy Minister of Creativity and Popular Participation and María Irene Blanco, Director of the National Conservatory of Music. The donation took place at an event held at the Conservatory. Ambassador Tsai said “It is a great honor to be able to continue strengthening the ties of collaboration with the Dominican Republic through the Ministry of Culture with which, in 2011, we have jointly developed cultural projects that have brought the cultures of our two countries closer together.” Likewise, Alexander Santana, Deputy Administrative Minister, and Valentín Guerrero, Director of the National Center of Artisans (CENADARTE in Spanish), received the keys of a Nissan 2000 van from Richard Lí, Chief of the Taiwan-DR Mission, and Michael Lee, Bamboo Art Specialist from the Mission. The van will be used for the logistical work of the Classroom-Workshop Bamboo-Wood Project being developed by the Taiwan Mission at the Center. At the event, held in the CENADARTE headquarters, Richard Lí affirmed that “in 2012 the Taiwan Mission will continue providing technical assistance to the industrial sector, evaluating the initiatives of the Mipyme group where the artisans are working.” In the name of CENADARTE, Valentín Guerrero thanked the Taiwan Mission for their donation and especially appreciated the attitude of solidarity continually expressed by the Mission toward the Dominican artisan sector. “Since 2007, nearly 1,200 artisans, including gold and silversmiths, potters and furniture makes, have received training, technical assistance, tools and economic support from Taiwan through programs coordinated by the Ministry of Culture and this is something the artisan community dearly appreciates.” Ambassador from Taiwan, Isaac Tsai, with Deputy Culture Ministers Bernarda Jorge and Alexander Santana, along with María Irene Blanco, Director of the National Conservatory of Music.
