Culture offers conference on “Marketing and Cultural Identity” Santo Domingo, República Dominicana 25/01/2012
The Deputy Minister of Institutional Development of the Ministry of Culture (MINC), Matthew Morrison, offered a lecture entitled “Marketing and Cultural Identity Facing the Challenges of the XXI Century” at The Ateneo Dominicano.

Along with Morrison at the head table were Henry Mejia, President of El Ateneo and Rosa Rodriguez, MINC’s Director of Education and Training.
In his presentation Morrison said that “culture is the foundation of our society. This is why we must advocate that cultural action advances in accordance to cultural management planning.”
He further stressed that historical development and management are processes, because they start from raw materials which are subject to a process of transformation to obtain a given product.
He also referred to democracy and democratization to indicate that revitalization is linked to cultural democracy, and dissemination is linked to the democratization of culture.

Another of the topics he discussed was the differences between revitalization and cultural dissemination, and in this regard he stated that while revitalization is an active endeavor dissemination is a cultural consumption activity.
