This week, as we usher in the Month of Love – February – we are happy to announce a series of special programs for Jazz lovers and lovers of culture in general. Two concerts and a photo exhibition dedicated to Jazz are part of the innovative program being offered by Jazz Dominicana, a project dedicated to the diffusion and presentation of Jazz to enthusiasts and the general public.

Activities for the week of January 29 to February 4, 2012

Concert:     Javier Vargas & ATRE

Our February musical offerings include Javier Vargas & ATRE – a Jazz-Fusion group led by guitarist Javier Vargas (Javielo) … high octane Jazz-Rock Funk-Fusion. This quartet is made up of Javier (Javielo) Vargas – band leader and lead guitarist; Helen de la Rosa – drums; Luis Feliz on bass and Hedrich Báez on keyboard. A surprise guest will also be joining the group at this concert.
Javielo will be performing pieces by famous musicians such as Pat Metheny, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chick Corea & John Scofield, to name a few. This is a night of Jazz you won’t want to miss. And don’t forget, there are several surprises in store, so be there and enjoy the fun!

This year’s 2012 season opens on Friday February 3rd with lots of activities. At 6:00 pm, we will inaugurate the Photo Exhibition of our very own César Sánchez: “The Color of Jazz in La Azotea.” This will be followed by the main course: a night of Jazz put on by our friend and drummer, Jordi Masalles. As you can see, the Sunset Jazz Fiesta is opening in style this year!

When Jordi Masalles joins us on stage at the Sunset Jazz Fiesta, we’ll not only enjoy his music but we’re also going to be treated to a chance to see his talented back-up musicians in the bargain. Every time they come back here, it is a fabulous get-together as well as a musical treat.
At this season opener, Jordi has a night full of surprises in store for all of us…one after the other, from the musicians, the invited guests to the repertory itself. So, DON’T MISS this special event on Friday, February 3rd!!
