Leonardo de Leon “2011 Cultural Personality” Rafael Lantigua, Minister of Culture, selected Dominicanlaureatescreenwriter Leonardo de Leon, to receive the “2011 Cultural Personality”award, which isconferredby the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic since the year 2008. The award was presenteddue to the international recognition that the Dominican writer has received, including the”Award of Excellence” at the 2011 Los Angeles Movie Awards,and the “Platinum Award” at the 2011 Oregon Film Awards, among others.
“I amveryhonored to be considered for this award,” said thescreenwriter of “Not All That Glitters Is Gold” and “Why Do Men Cheat?” The presentation of this award will take place on Thursday, February 23, in the Maximum Aviles Blondahallatthe Palacio de BellasArtes (Fine Arts Palace), at 5:30 pm. This award from the Ministry of Culture distinguishes personalities whose service in the field of culture may serve as an example and a model for the new generations to find in the field of the arts an exemplary and profitable way of life, and one that uplifts the spirit. Along with Leonardo, eleven other personalities will be recognized during the ceremony, for their contributions to the development and promotion of culture. After only two years practicing the profession of screenwriter, Leonardo de Leon is close to obtaining significant achievements in his career and it is expected that one of his scripts will soon be produced by Hollywood. Leonardo de Leon has published four books and in 2009 he started writing for the film industry with the help of renowned American consultant Craig Kellem, creator of the hit series ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and whofor 20 years was also an executive at Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox. | ||
