Ministry of Culture Gives Workshop on Library Organization The Ministry of Culture (MINC in Spanish), through the General Directorate of Books and Reading, gave the workshop, “Organization of Libraries for Writers,” in the Arte Ramón Oviedo Hall of the Ministry’s headquarters. The participants learned to use the Dewey Decimal Classification system, which provides a dynamic structure for the organization of book collections while allowing the material to be organized and easily found. The workshop, which is directed at writers, was given by librarian María Del Socorro Duque Bernal, “with the goal of giving writers the basics on how a library is organized and to understand the technical elements that go into cataloging their books to enable them to organize their own library.” The practical-theoretical course explains some of the basic guidelines that go into organizing materials in a library, the formats and types of information, how to catalogue books and the steps used in getting material into a library.
