The Dominican Academy of History sponsored the keynote speech, “The Cathedral Museum” to be given Eugenio Pérez Montás.

At the conference, Eugenio Pérez Montás spoke of the importance of the Cathedral Museum project detailing the collections in this Museum that houses artistic treasures of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo such as restored and un-restored paintings, religious images, objects and sculptures.


Mr. Pérez Montás detailed the expectations they have for the creation of the museum and the relationship with the Center for Touristic, Cultural and Religious Interpretation Project of the Colonial Zone which is being overseen by the Ministry of Tourism.


“I am very optimistic to share to all of you the details of this project, now that the objective of the Cathedral Museum includes becoming a service to the education and culture of the country and in positioning itself as an attraction to develop cultural and religious tourism,” said Eugenio Pérez Montás.


The keynote speech was given with the collaboration of Soraya Pérez Gautier, collaborating member of the Academy of History who presented “The Museum and its Collections” and Emil García Isidor, member of the Executive Unit of the Archbishopric, who presented “Twin Projects of the Cathedral Museum and the Center for Touristic, Cultural and Religious Interpretation Project of the Colonial Zone.”


Eugenio Pérez Montás, an expert in community development, participated in the architectural recuperation of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo. He has received the highest awards such as the Juan Pablo Duarte National Literature Prize with the book “The City of Ozama” in 1999, the National Art Critics Award and in 2000 the grand prize of the Biennial 2000 and the Biennial of Theory, History and Critics Award in Architecture and/or Urbanism.
