And I Am Also Word

A  solidarity meeting between a community of artists of various disciplines and a privileged audience comprised of residents at the Najayo 2 Women´s Rehabilitation Center and women from the Rafey and Baní Women´s Centers will take place on March 8 in honor of International Women´s Day with support from the Spanish Cultural Center.

Organizers of the event have stated that it does not seek to be a performance but rather a chance to create a space that will facilitate attendees to share their lives through cultural, educational and human development objectives, among other things.

The activity, “And I Am Also Word,” will bring together eighteen writers and one monitor, who will share their vision on the concept of internal freedom of women in our time. They will also present the artistic creations of the women who reside in the centers.

The day’s activities will begin in the morning with a recitation of poetry about women as well as a photography exhibition called, “A Look at You” under the direction of Ángela Hernández and Pedro Genaro. In the afternoon, there will be simultaneous workshops on writing, painting and appreciation of photography of ten Dominican photographers. An estimated 300 residents of the centers are expected to experiment with how art can help on create her own internal freedom.

In this second version of this event, the following people will participate: Ángela Hernández, Argénida Romero, Deidamia Galán, Farah Hallal, Huayna Jiménez, Isis Aquino, Marlex Rodríguez, Marquelis Valdez, Mitri Jiménez, Ninoska Martínez, Reina Ramírez, Riamny Méndez, Rossalinna Benjamín, Patricia Minalla, Pedro Genaro, Sheilly Núñez and Ysabel Florentino.

In order to share the experience of this event, there will be a presentation open to the public called, “And I Am Also Word (Round 2)” on Sunday March 11 at 7:00 pm in the Evolution Laboratory of Contemporary Art located in the Conde Walkway of Colon Park. Entrance is free.
