The book is full of recipes for easy-to-make, low-cost, simple meals and juices as well as exercises for women with breast cancer and detection methods for women to identify the symptoms to prevent it. The book costs $225.00 Dominican pesos (about $5.75).


The dietary practices offered in the 74-page book include a large variety of easy, economical and simple recipes as well as exercises and suggestions on how to make healthy juices for women with breast cancer and to help prevent and detect it.


As part of the XV International Book Fair, the Office of the First Lady (DPD in Spanish) and the TV program, Con el Consumidor [With the Consumer], jointly published the book, “18 prácticas alimentarias contra el cáncer de seno” [18 Dietary Practices against Breast Cancer] . All book sale profits will go to the breast cancer prevention programs, Hoy es el Mejor Momento [Today is the Best Moment] and Mujeres Solidarias [Women in Solidarity].


The dietary practices offered in the 74-page book include a large variety of easy, economical and simple recipes as well as exercises and suggestions on how to make healthy juices for women with breast cancer and to help prevent and detect it.


Marisela Mañon, nutritionist and author, gave a summary of her book and spoke about the importance of having a healthy diet in order to improve one’s quality of life.


Dr. Altagracia Suriel, Director of Social Program of the DPD, spoke about the achievements of the breast cancer prevention and detection program throughout its six years of existence and how the book will help the goals of the Hoy es el Mejor Momento program.


Altagracia Paulino expressed her joy at seeing this project successfully underway since she initiated it before having taken on the leadership of Pro Consumidor. She reiterated her commitment to informing and orienting the consumer population by providing the necessary information to choose products that help improve their quality of life.


Dominican First Lady, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández in her role as Ambassador Extraordinaire of the FAO, graciously accepted to be part of this initiative, which links good dietary practices with the health and well-being of Dominican families.


Over the years, With the Consumer Program in its La Cocina Diferente (The Different Kitchen) section has consistently provided the Dominican people cooking and eating advice and recipes for various nutritious meals to improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. 


Since 2006, the Office of the First Lady has taken on the task of combating and preventing breast cancer. Today, the DPD has helped orient over 300,000 women, 51,022 of whom have received mammograms.
