A chorus made of 40 children and youth voices will stage a large repertoire of songs, with the objective of pleasing the most special group of people in the world, the mothers.


The Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall in the Palace of Fine Arts will be the stage where 40 children and youth will honor with their voices the most special people on Earth, the mothers.


The Office of the First Lady of the Dominican Republic will present, on Tuesday the 15th, a concert dedicated to Dominican mothers. It will be called “A Song of Love”.


The Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall in the Palace of Fine Arts will be the stage where 40 children and youth will honor with their voices the most special people on Earth, the mothers.


“For this occasion we have prepared songs by both Dominican and foreign composers that will be dedicated to mothers. We hope that a many mothers will show up for the concert since it is not very often in this country that we have the opportunity to attend a concert by childrenonly, and with such a varied repertoire of songs,” said Mayra Peguero, Choirmaster of the Children’s and Youth Chorus of the Office of the First Lady.


The choir will be directed by Mrs.Peguero; in addition, music masters José Luis Ureña on percussion, and Elioenai Medina on the piano, will offer their accompaniment.

About the Chorus


The initiative of the Children and Youth Chorus of the Office of the First Ladywas created by Dr. Margarita Cedeño de Fernández. It is made up of 40 children who are reading patrons of the Dominican Republic’s Children’s and Youth Library; they receive training in musical language and vocal techniques.


The group was formed three years ago; the children are recruited and taught by choirmaster and pianist Mayra Peguero who, in addition, has a lot of experience in starting children’s choirs.


In November of 2010, the chorus of the Office of the First Lady, which had only been founded the year before, participated in the 12th “Encuentro de Coros” (Choir Meet) during which it won second place in the children’s category.
