UNIBE kicks off the 2012 Environmental Week with various events Universidad Iberoamericana announced the opening of the 2012 Environmental Week, during which it presented the UNIBE Award of Environmental Sciences.Among the activities taking place during this week there was a film festival, the presentation of awards, exhibitions and activities related to the conservation of natural resources. The Environmental Week takes place since 1988, and is organized by the Biology area under the direction ofLic. Milagros Rodríguez.Since its inception its objective has been tocarry outactivities that promote the love of nature, encourage worktowards a healthy and safe environment, and recognize those who work to make this a reality. He indicated to the students that attended the event that their future has much to do with the preservation of our planet. This year’s recognition was awarded to Lic.Sixto Joaquín Incháustegui, Biodiversity Specialist from the Dominican Republic, and the 2012 UNIBE Award for Environmental Sciences was presented to the students of the School of Systems Engineering for their work entitled “Use of electronic devices that are harmful for the environment.” University Rector, Dr. Julio A. Castaños, delivered the welcoming remarks.When referring to the recognition and award he said “I do not believe that for 25 years in the Dominican Republic there havebeen awards dedicated to environmentalism. Since its foundation,UNIBE has had this commitment with society.” He indicated to the students that attended the event that their future has much to do with the preservation of our planet. Lic. Incháusteguithanked the University for the award and stated that he felt attracted to nature from an early age. He acknowledged the importance of sustainable development bysaying that “We are in a delicate environmental situation; we must change the development model.” He also called on young people by adding that we are all responsible for our planet and all signs point to the need to change. UNIBE authorities, teachers and students, as well as family and friends of Lic.SixtoIncháutegui, attended the event. The 2012 Environmental Science Award went to UNIBE students Leidys Pimentel, José Ariel García, MagdielAybar, Johan Rodríguez, Yorka Pérez, and Elvin Soto Ariasin the School of Engineering, Information Technology and Communication. | ||
