Compu-Metro Opens at Juan Pablo Duarte Station Compu-Metro offers users of the Santo Domingo Metro a space where they can get in direct contact with knowledge and technology. “Towards a Country of Readers” is the slogan for the initiative that is part of the “Leyendo Aprendo” Program, offered by the Office of the First Lady, to establish reading as a right and a learning alternative for all people, especially children and youth. This Wednesday, the First Lady, Dr. Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, opened the new Compu-Metro at the Juan Pablo Duarte metro station, located on Avenida John F. Kennedy, at the corner of Máximo Gómez. Through this initiative, the Office of the First Lady is offering users of the Santo Domingo Metro system the opportunity to use state-of-the art technology and to get involved in the world of books and reading. “Towards a Country of Readers” is the slogan for the initiative that is part of the “Leyendo Aprendo” Program, offered by the Office of the First Lady, to establish reading as a right and a learning alternative for all people, especially children and youth. With this new Compu-Metro, Mrs. Cedeño de Fernández has now opened two centers. The first was opened in December of 2008 and is located in the Terminal Centro de los Héroes metro station. Description of the facilities Among the benefits that the Compu-Metro facilities offers to users of the Metro is the opportunity to exchange books within the metro stations circuit, through the “LIBRO a LIBRO” Project (Book to Book). Through this project, individuals can take a book home, free of charge, and, at the same time, hand over another book so that others may enjoy the pleasure of reading. The Compu-Metro facilities are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. | ||
