Culture Ministry Donates a Fernando Peña Defilló Painting to Central American Integration System The Dominican Republic gave a painting of well-known Dominican artist, Fernando Peña Defilló, to the Central American Integration System (SICA in Spanish) at the closing event of the XV Book Fair in Santo Domingo, which was dedicated this year to the countries of Central America. The event took place at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater … The event took place at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater and was overseen by the Minister of Culture, José Rafael Lantigua, who presented the painting to María Eugenia Barrios, president Pro-tempore of SICA in the Dominican Republic. Ms. Barrios, speaking for the Central American countries who were the guests of honor at the Book Fair, thanked the Dominicans for their gesture. She underscored the importance of such book fairs saying that a population that reads has hopes while those who do not read lose the way because they don’t know what has happened in the past and therefore cannot understand the present and lack the tools to deal with the future.
