Chinese Embassy Donates Money to Rehabilitate Historic Archives of Santo Domingo Archbishopric

His Eminence, the Most Reverend Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez, received a $100,000 donation from the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Mr. Thomas Ping-Fu Hou to be used in the third and final phase of the Rehabilitation Project of the Historic Archive of the Archbishopric of Santo Domingo.

Likewise, Ambassador Ping-Fu Hou expressed his satisfaction in donating the money as part of a contribution to rehabilitating the historic memory of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo.
The Ambassador made reference to achievements made in the first 2 phases, which were also carried out with financial support from the Republic of China, Taiwan.

Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez thanked the Embassy of China (Taiwan) for this show of support and solidary. “We are profoundly grateful for what Taiwan has done to help us rescue the historic memory of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo.”

Likewise, Ambassador Ping-Fu Hou expressed his satisfaction in donating the money as part of a contribution to rehabilitating the historic memory of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo.

The Ambassador made reference to achievements made in the first 2 phases, which were also carried out with financial support from the Republic of China, Taiwan.

He explained that in this third phase, they are fortifying the work that has been done in the areas of indexation of access points, finalization of image digitation and providing access to databases of books that were processed in the second phase.

“I congratulate his Eminence, the Most Reverend Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez, Archbishop of Santo Domingo for developing this restoration project which is very important for society in general as well as for his constant and active participation in all initiatives that benefit the Dominican Republic in all areas of religious and social life,” said Ambassador Ping-Fu Hou.

This donation seeks to achieve certain objectives, such as: establish guidelines for access and use of the historic documentation by the authorities of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, strengthen storage mechanisms, conservation and management of the Archives, instruct personnel selected by the Archdiocese to work in the use and management of the systems implemented in the Historic Archive and the restoration of deteriorated books, among other tasks.
