Inauguration of Exhibit “Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment” at Parque Independencia in Santo Domingo during Second Dominican Republic Film Festival (DREFF) Today, September 6, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) inaugurated the exhibit “Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment” at Parque Independencia in Santo Domingo during Second Dominican Republic Film Festival (DREFF). The exhibit displays graphics and scientific information from the Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment, a reference book published by GFDD and FUNGLODE. The encyclopedic dictionary offers basic knowledge to young readers on environment and conservation methods, planting the seeds of life-long learning and environmental responsibility. The welcoming remarks during the launch of the exhibit were delivered by Asunción Sanz, Director of the GFDD Washington Office. Ms. Sanz asserted that this initiative and the Festival at large seek to inspire interest and concern among Dominican audiences regarding the environment and the natural beauty of the Dominican Republic. Sanz invited those gathered to visit the Parque Independencia with their families to learn about this important scientific and educational project. During the inaugural ceremony, Eda Grullón of the Ministry of Culture congratulated GFDD and FUNGLODE for launching this initiative aimed at elevating understanding of issues related to environmental conservation. “Projects of this nature are of critical importance when it comes to obligating people to commit to caring for our hábitat and raising awareness of the relation between culture and environment,” declared Ms. Grullón. The exhibit displays graphics and scientific information from the Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment, a reference book published by GFDD and FUNGLODE. The encyclopedic dictionary offers basic knowledge to young readers on environment and conservation methods, planting the seeds of life-long learning and environmental responsibility. The encyclopedic dictionary masterfully unites information on the environment and natural resources of the Dominican Republic. The volume incorporates information from a wide range of disciplines, including chemistry, physics, geology, biology, atmospheric engineering, earth and soil sciences, geography, demography, economics and law. The exhibition is one of the many activities that form part of the Second Edition of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival, which aims to elevate understanding of environmental issues among Dominican audiences, while also celebrating the beauty and natural heritage of the natural environment. The exhibition will be on display until Friday, September 28. Through screening a diverse selection of high-quality films on matters of environmental concern, and organizing panel discussions with environmental experts, filmmakers and other stakeholders, the Festival seeks to foster dialogue and to inspire Dominican audiences to adopt practices that will ensure the health and environmental sustainability of the country. All screenings are free and open to the public and all foreign films are subtitled in Spanish. The First Edition of the Dominican Republic Environmental Festival was launched in September 2011.
