Espaillat 2012 Book Fair Dedicated to Dominican Writer Julio Jaime Julia Guzman The Ministry of Culture dedicated the VIII Regional Book Fair of Espaillat 2012 to the writer from Moca, Julio Jaime Julia Guzmán, historian, essayist and editor. Among his large body of work, some of the stand-outs include “Notes for the History of Moca, 1885/1985” and “Anthology of Great Dominican Orators.” The dedication at the grand cultural event, which took place on November 12, was a recognition of the life and work of Julio Guzmán who was born on March 31, 1922 and passed away in 1993. Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, calledJulioGuzmána tireless promoter of culture and a man concerned about Dominican heritage and what it means to be Dominican. Guzman wrote over 40 books on history, humanism, social and cultural issues. Other public responsibilities this well-known writer carried out included being a board member of the Directorate of Culture for the Moca town hall, the General Archive of the Nation and the DominicanAtaneo. He was one of the founding members of the Duarte Institute. Among his large body of work, some of the stand-outs include “Notes for the History of Moca, 1885/1985” and “Anthology of Great Dominican Orators.”The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture, through the Board of Directors of the Book Fair, will publicize information about other writers and their work to make them more available to the public attending the Fair. This regional book fair has a fully-packed schedule of events, including: conferences, literary workshops, artistic presentations, street theater, handicraft exhibits, among other cultural activities. The VIII Regional Book Fair ends on the 18th of this month. Over 14 provinces that make up the Cibao region are participating. More than one hundred writers have emerged from Moca in recent years whose writing describes the culture and multiple life experiences that enable them to maintain their customs here.
