Ministry of Culture recognizes several individuals for their valuable literary contributions

The Ministry of Culture, within the framework of the Regional Book Fair Espaillat 2012, recognized several individuals and institutions from the northern region for their valuable contributions to Dominican literature and culture.

The awardsceremony took place during the opening of the VIII Regional Book Fair, which was held on Monday at Cáceres Park in Moca.

The event was headed by the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, together with the region’s municipal and provincial authorities.

The top recognition went to writer Roberto PeñaLebrón, for his contributions to poetry. His representative, Pedro Pompey, received the diploma on his behalf.

Thereupon, Minister Rodríguez presented adiploma to the editor of the Mitos magazine, Rosa Julia Vargas, for hermonumental and effective work in thedissemination of Dominican literature.

Also, Amir Cepeda, President of Moca’s Club Activo 20-30, was recognized for his intense and ongoing work of disseminating books and reading in the city of Moca.

The awardsceremony took place during the opening of the VIII Regional Book Fair, which was held on Monday at Cáceres Park in Moca.

The event was attended by leading authorities of the Espaillat province, including Senator José Rafael Vargas, Governor Disoné Ovalles, Carlos Amarante Baret, Chairman of the Dominican Council of INDOTEL, Dr. Carlos Salcedo, Chief of Staff of the Ministry Culture, and Dr. Luis O. Brea Franco, Coordinator of the Vice Ministry of Cultural Heritage.

Also in attendance were Alejandro Arvelo, Director General of the Book Fair, and Remberto Cruz, Mayor of the municipality of Moca.
