The Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Spain in Santo Domingo are pleased to present the “18 + 12 Illustrators Interpret the 1812 Constitution” exhibition.


The show will be inaugurated on Wednesday December 5, 2012 at 5 pm in the Museum of the Dominican Man and will remain open until January 13, 2013.

18 + 12, organized by the Spanish Cultural Action institute (AC/E), will also travel to other Latin American countries such as Honduras, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Brazil, Mexico and the United States. It can also be seen at the ABC Museum of Madrid from March 12 to June 3.


The Spanish Cultural Action institute (AC/E) is commemorating the Bicentennial of the Constitution of Cadiz from a current perspective with the 1812-2012 project. A contemporary view, under the commission of JorgeDíez, is a project that covers a series of initiatives in various areas of art such as illustration, music, audiovisual and Internet, going on in various places around Spain.As part of this project, the Spanish Cultural Action Institute (AC/E) with the collaboration from the City Council ofAstorga, has organized this exhibition which is bringing together the work of 30 illustrators (18 Spaniards and 12 Latin Americans, 12 women and 18 men) who will show the various aspects of the Constitution of 1812 starting with the articles contained in the Constitution of Cádiz. These will be illustrated from their own points of view, graphically and ideologically, contrasting to the extent it is possible, with their respective geographic, social and political surroundings.


The exhibition also features a series of panels given by the artists who will talk about the format and inspiration of their work, how each of the illustrators drew up the outlines of their projects. The biographies of the illustrators will be available so that visitors can understand how they arrived at where they are in their work. The artists have visual as well as texts to show in their panels, many of which were elaborated by the commissioner of the exhibition and historian, Manuel Chust.


The Spanish illustrators involved in the project are Pablo Amargo, Elisa Arguilé, Pablo Aulabell, ArnalBallester (National Illustration Prize 2008), Paz Boïra, Miguel Calatayud (National Illustration Prize 2009), Isidro Ferrer, Miguel Gallardo, Ana Juan (National Illustration Prize 2010), Keko, Laura, Victoria Martos, Max, Micharmut, Sonia Pulido, Carmen Segovia, Fernando Vicente and Noemí Villamuza.


The Latin America are Mexicans, CintiaBolio and Alejandro Magallanes; Cuba,Ajubel; Brazil, Anna Anjos andFlavioMorais; the Venezuelan,Devoner; Juan Acevedo from Peru; Argentines, Mariana Chiesa andLiniers; Uruguayan,Ombú; from Colombia,Powerpaola and Rodrigo Salinas from Chile.
