“Cierto Lenguaje” Exhibit at the Cultural Center of Spain The Cultural Center of Spain is presenting its last exhibition of 2012 with a collection of paintings by Dominican artist, Laura Castro. The exhibition is comprised of 7 paintings that make up a chronological narrative series of a language, which represent what the artist understands about construction. According to Aurora Martínez, curator of the exhibition, “Laura Castro is delivering with this seriesof paintings and these never-before-seen installations an appreciation of the evident and latent construction in a direct urban setting. In CiertoLenguaje, dividing lines between the past and the present, the open and the hidden are such that reality is mixed with the imaginary in a paradoxical game that seems to challenge the limits of time and space, making them inhabit another language.” The exhibition is comprised of 7 paintings that make up a chronological narrative series of a language, which represent what the artist understands about construction. A series of miniatures serve as a transition from the collection of her former artwork and an introduction to this exhibition. Cierto Lenguaje will be open until December 21 at the MaríaUgarteHall of the Spanish Cultural Center from Monday to Saturday,9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Laura Castro Laura Castro is an artist whose orientation is the process of collecting waste products, elements from nature and material from the urban settings such as construction sites, which she later transforms into visual poetry using a series of codes and a particular language that reflects a profoundview of humanity. Taking advantage of the resources she finds in her surroundings and converting them into vernacular art which she uses in her everyday life in her home and art studio as they represent collective space, her physical, social and cultural surroundings. | ||
