INFOTEP Receives $200,000 from Government of Taiwan The National Institute of Technical Professional Formation (INFOTEP in Spanish), received a donation of $200,000 US dollars from the People’s Republic of China (Taiwan), for the project “Expansion of the San Juan de la Maguana Technical Training Center.” This grant corresponds to the structural funds programming of 2012 and takes places as part of the fraternal cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China (Taiwan), Tomás Ping-Fu Hou and the Director of INFOTEP, Dr. Idionis Pérez, signed the certificate of donation which establishes that the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will follow up on and supervise the program financed under this Memorandum of Understanding. “This Project is for expanding the technical training services offered in the Southern region, with the aim of contributing to the socioeconomic development of its inhabitants. This region has valuable human resources to offer that will now be able to receive training without having to travel,” said Ping-Fu Hou. Dr. Pérez expressed to the Taiwan Diplomatic Mission that the money will be used for the project that was outlined, and will comply with the expectations not only of the inhabitants of San Juan de la Maguana, but also the entire Southern region. “We’re dealing with just another commitment that our institution will follow through with exactly as proposed, with its sights set on increasing the productivity and competitiveness of the whole Southern region of the Dominican Republic.” INFOTEP will carry out the project and will present the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (Taiwan) with midterm and final evaluations. The institution will also maintainclose coordination with the Taiwanese Embassy during the implementation of the program with the purpose of guaranteeing its visible participation in all public events surrounding the project. The General Director of Bilateral Participation, Nelson Valdez, said that for the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development this is a very significant occurrence, in the sense that the Taiwanese Government continues to support, believe in and accompany the Dominican Republic’s efforts to build a professional technical workforce that is growing more and more capable, efficient and able to respond to the needs of the labor market, as well as the development of strategies “that we have established for ourselves for the next 20 years.” Those who attended the event include Mr. Ronaldo Torres, representative of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development; diplomats from the Government of Taiwan and managers from INFOTEP. |
