Labor Ministry Workshops on Migrant Labor and Human Trafficking The Labor Ministry gave the fourth workshop on “Accomplishments in Labor Migration and Human Trafficking in the Dominican Republic” to the inspectors of the organization. The activity was aimed at making the auditors aware of the importance of protecting the workplace rights of immigrants and fighting the battle against human trafficking. The workshops were sponsored by the Government of Canada and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), represented by the Canadian ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Georges Boissé and Cy Winter, the Head of Nations from the IOM. Topics covered in the event were: Issues about Human Trafficking, Historic Evolution of Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking in the Country, Legal Framework that Regulates and Sanctions Human Trafficking, and Tools the Nation and International Community Possess to Fight this Scourge. Another subject presented in the symposium was the debate about Law 137-03 that sanctions and punishes those guilty of human trafficking.During the workshop,the results of an investigation into Criminal Acts of Trafficking were presented by Manuel Acosta, Deputy Prosecutor of the National District. The workshop was held in compliance with Law 137-03, relating to migrant smuggling and human trafficking. | ||
