Thursday, January 24, at 8:30 pm at the Dominican-German Center, located in Calle Isabel La Católica No. 212, Colonial Zone, Santo Domingo (phone: 809-221-8475), and Friday, January 25, at 8:30 pm, at the Gran Teatro del Cibao, Julio Alberto Hernández hall, in Santiago de los Caballeros (phone: 809-583-1150).

The Timo Vollbrecht New York Group will arrive directly from Haiti, where they will participate in the 7th edition of the Puerto Principe International Jazz Festival. The group’s musical style is the result of a cultural combination, which, on the one hand, gently seduces the listeners, and on the other hand it challenges them. The four musicians that make up the group: Keisuke Matsuno (Japan)on guitar, Sam Anning (Australia)on bass, Jason Burger (USA)on drums, and Timo Vollbrecht,the renowned saxophonist and composer and multi award winner at international competitions, are passionate improvisation artists. The high level and fine quality of their sound is due ultimately to themusicians’ training and experience in concerts. Timo Vollbrecht, who is part of the most important voices of the burgeoning young German jazz, has studied with Mark Turner and has already shared the stage with Joe Levano, Kenny Werner and Brian Lynch. He has won a diversity of awards, including the German Jazz Award “Jugend jazzt (Youth jazz)”. Keisuke Matsuno, also age 27, has performed with Dave Liebmann, Chris Potter and Till Brönner. However, the full sound of the quartet is only achieved with drummer Jason Burger and with Sam Anning, one of New York’s most in demand bass players.

The Timo Vollbrecht New York Group will perform withthe Ania Paz Jazz Ensemble, a group made of outstanding Dominican musicians: VirgilioFélizJunior on bass, Félix Cabral on drums, Juamy Fernández on percussion,and renowned pianist and composer Ania Paz, winner of multiple awards, including the José Reyesaward from the Ministry of Culture for symphonic compositionand the Song Award at the Claro Festival. She has successfully participated in international festivals such as the TCI San JoséCalifornia Jazz Festival (USA), the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, and the International Jazz Festival in Lima (Peru). She has also produced and directed innovative multidisciplinary events such as the Ania Paz Jazz Series and two shows for the United NationsUNHCR.

Musicians from different continents are united by their love for the unknown. Mixing melodic elements of classical music and jazz’s multifaceted harmony and rhythm, the ensembles will create a lively sound composition.
