Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry of Women and United Nations The Ministry of Women and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)signed a memorandum of understanding involving the Dominican Republic and other countries in the region that are part of the UNDP’s learning exchange community to promote equity and gender equality in public and private businesses. The objectiveof the signatories is to jointly promote an initiative that contributes to achieving gender equality in the workplace, developing a model for quality and implementing a process of awarding a Seal of Quality in the Area of Gender Equality,… The memorandum of understanding was signed by Alejandrina Germán, Minister of Women; Valerie Julliand, Resident Representative of the UNDP; representatives from the National Institutes and Mechanisms for the Advance of Women in Brazil, Costa Rica, Uruguay, El Salvador, Mexico, Chile, Panama, Colombia, Honduras and Cuba in ceremonies held in their respective countries. The objectiveof the signatories is to jointly promote an initiative that contributes to achieving gender equality in the workplace, developing a model for quality and implementing a process of awarding a Seal of Quality in the Area of Gender Equality, which will encourage healthy and productive competition that will ultimately benefit women. According to the document, signatory countries will participate in the UNDP’s learning and exchange community with the objective of promoting interchange and the transfer of knowledge and experiences through cooperation strategies and mechanisms on Systems Management for Gender Equality as part of the “Community for the Practice of the Seal of Equality” being developed by the UNDP. The memorandum of understanding also establishes the design and elaboration of products that encourage learning (documents, guidebooks, tools, indicators and other things) that contribute to extending the implementation of the Management Systems for Gender Equality in the Region. It also contemplates a System of Regional Certification for Gender Equality in the workplace as well as in public and private arenas, in keeping with the common characteristics for all participating countries and includes the participation in reflection spaces and joint analysis, sponsored by the UNDP or other academic and educational institutions involved in developing novel work strategies and methodology to promote gender equality in public policies. The agreement will be confirmed upon the participation of those involved in virtual as well as in-person exchange activities, technical assistance missions and work meetings. The agreement will be in effect until July 15, 2015. |
