Call for entries The Latino Video Art Festival of New York República Dominicana, Santo Domingo 02/20/13
The King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center of New York University is pleased to announce the open call to participate in the second edition of Region 0 – The Latino Video Art Festival of New York, to be held on May 16-18, 2013 in New York City, United States.
Region 0 – 2nd edition will be held on May 16th, 17th and 18th, 2013, at NYU’s King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at NYU in New York City.
In the audiovisual media, Region 0 is an informal term for “worldwide.” Region 0 – The Latino Video Art Festival of New York (“the Festival”) embraces the idea of audiovisual works transcending international barriers. The first edition of Region 0 took place in March 2011 and during 2012 travelled to Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Spain and other locations in the United States. Call for entries
- The Festival is open to all Spanish, Latin American, or US of Latin descent artists, older than 21.
- All subjects are accepted.
- Participants may send a maximum of two video works.
- Entries must have been completed after 2009; maximum length is 10 minutes.
- If the works contain dialogues, texts or songs relevant to their understanding in a language other than English, they must be subtitled in English.
- The period for submission of work is one month: from 15 February to 15 March 2013. Works not submitted within these dates will not be accepted.
- Videos will be submitted online. All works must be submitted via the Internet.
Selection
The curator, Eva Mendoza Chandas, will select the videos, provided they meet the requirements stated in these regulations. Videos will be selected taking into account their quality, originality of the proposal, and their aesthetic and conceptual research. During April, the organization will contact by email the artists whose work has been selected. Special mentions
- A jury composed of two internationally recognized professionals in the art world will award special mentions.
- Three works among those selected for the Festival will receive a special mention, each endowed with US$ 500. The awards will be subject to U.S. tax treatment.
- The organization reserves the right to substitute a juror if necessary.
- The jury’s decision is final.
Documentation
- A link to the videos that allows a complete and correct view. Links to YouTube, Vimeo, artist’s own website, etc., are accepted.
- Technical details, namely: Title, author or authors, year of production, length, and a brief synopsis of the works. Documentation must be submitted both in its original language and in English.
- Two still frames extracted from each sent work, in JPEG format, with a resolution of 300 DPI and at a maximum size of 30 cm x 30 cm (11.8 inches x 11.8 inches).
- Bio in English of the artist or group of artists (with a contact email address).
- All required documentation must be sent to info@regionzero.net
Shipment
- Artists must email their works to info@regionzero.net
- Artists whose work is selected must send their video files within a week of receiving the email. Files may be sent via Internet and must comply with the following formats and rates: Quicktime movie (.mov), 30 FPS, 16:9, Audio 44.100 KHz, 720 x 480 pixels.
Screenings
Region 0 – 2nd edition will be held on May 16th, 17th and 18th, 2013, at NYU’s King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at NYU in New York City. The organization will promote the selected works as much as possible. Selected artists agree to assign the rights to screen their video for the duration of the Festival and the Festival for possible traveling exhibitions to other centers and/or institutions. Selected artists agree to release their screening rights during the course of the Festival and for possible traveling exhibitions. Selected artists agree to transfer the pictures rights for outreach, promotion and Festival archive purposes. Participation in this Festival entails acceptance of these terms and conditions.
