Three concerts will be held to launch his first record production: a Gala Concert in Santo Domingo and Popular Concerts in Santiago and in Santo Domingo.

Produced and directed by renowned Dominican musician Pengbian Sang and his music group “Retro Jazz,” this CD brings us a selection of the most emblematic Dominican songs orchestrated, recreated and interpreted as never before.

Rafael Solano, Manuel Sánchez Acosta, Leonor Porcella de Brea, Luis Días, Juan Luis Guerra, Anthony Ríos …, are just some of the composers to whom this production pays tribute. The production gives a new dimension to their most iconic songs. From nativemusic to merengue, from bachata to salsa, these emblematic Dominican songs take on another dimension when they are recreated from the perspective of authentic DominicanJazz musicians seeking to pay a sincere tribute to the composers of our country.

About Pengbian Sang & Retro Jazz

Renowned musician Pengbian Sang –the first Dominican to graduate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts –useshis training and experience as music arranger, orchestrator and jazz player, to deliver a combination of beauty and elegance of the most popular Dominican songs,with the harmonic depth of jazz, the sensuality of the bossa,and the energy and spontaneity of the improvisation.

Retro Jazz started as an instrumental orchestraon September 23, 2011,at the Sunset Jazz Festival, with the participation of a select group of the most prominent jazz musicians of our country, who were able to contribute sound with musical depth, personality and energyto Pengbian’s musical arrangements. The Retro Jazz sound is further perfected by the voice of Laura Rivera, who with her warm, intense and authenticstyle, has instilled new life and colors to these songs that were originally designed in styles that are very different from the arrangements produced byPengbian and Retro Jazz.

The Production

Pengbian Sang & Retro Jazz – Jazzeando el CancioneroDominicano – consists of the original arrangements by Pengbian Sang of twelve songs.

Musicians: Pengbian Sang (bass), Laura Rivera (singer), Jesús”Gury” Abreu (saxophones), Federico Méndez (guitar), Álvaro Dinzey (keyboards), Remy Taveras (drums) and Edgar Molina (percussion).
