Poetry Workshop to Open Pre-Inaugural Cycle Prior to Book Fair The Pre-Inaugural Poetry Cycle Workshop leading up to the 16th International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2013 is underway. Cuban writer and maestro Jesús Barquetis giving the poetry workshop, the theme of which is Latin American poetry. It will conclude this coming Tuesday at the Culture Library in Colonial City. This year, the Book Fair will be dedicated to the writer Hilma Contreras with Ecuador as the Guest of Honor. The Book Fair will pay homage to Juan Pablo Duarte in celebration of the bicentennial of his birth. The poetry course was organized by university professor Eulogio Javier, Director of the National System of Literary Workshops for the Ministry of Culture. Professor Javier said the course is part of the Pre-Inaugural Poetry Cycle prior to the 16th International Book Fair and the literary workshop training programs. The purpose of the literary workshop is to consolidate the knowledge of the formal poetic elements of metrics as well as giving an overview of the Latin American poetic canon and what poetry has meant for the continent. Jesús Barquet explained that participants in this workshop are analyzing Latin American poetry from the point of view of its evolution through time, its achievements, mixed styles and discourses. He said they are looking at the work of such writers as Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Rubén Darío, José María Heredia, Gabriela Mistral, the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, among others. | ||
