International Book Fair Announces Human Monuments Competition As part of the celebrations of the bicentennial of the birth of Juan Pablo Duarte, the Ministry of Culture, in coordination with International Book Fair organizers, called on designers and scenic artists to participate in a competitive exhibition on Human Monuments under the theme, “Life, works and times of Patricio.” The event will be held as part of the XVI Santo Domingo International Book Fair, 2013. In recent years the International Book Fair of Santo Domingo has featured the art of living statues to the acclaim of the visiting public and communications media as they appreciate this novel art form. Participants will have the chance to compete for one of three prizes as well as a special People’s Choice award. The winners will be chosen by a jury comprised of artists and personalities from the world of culture; also, the public will vote for its favorite pieces. In recent years the International Book Fair of Santo Domingo has featured the art of living statues to the acclaim of the visiting public and communications media as they appreciate this novel art form. Organizers said they were “deeply gratified with the opportunity to reward those who always support this event with their creativity and enthusiasm.” In addition to the competition, Guillermo Liriano will lead a workshop during the first week of the fair entitled “Fashioning the Intelligent Body,” for both competitors and members of the general public interested in learning the technique of human statuary.
