Public figures will be honored at the International Book Fair
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, March 23, 2013

This year, during the celebration of the XVI International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2013 (FIL 2013), various public figures will be honored with the dedication to them of one of the streets of the Juan Pablo DuartePlaza de la Cultura, where the event will take place.

Also, there will be a special tribute to renowned Dominican poet Pedro Mir, to mark the centennial of his birth.

Among these intellectuals, the Directorate General of the Book Fair and the Ministry of Culture will honorRaymundo Amaro Guzmán, Rosa Francia Esquea, Pedro José Gris, Homero Pumarol and Fernando Valerio Holguín.

Also, Armando Almánzar Rodríguez, Franklin Mirabal, Fiume Gómez de Michel, Saulo Hidalgo, Andrés L. Mateo, Martha Rivera, Artagnan Pérez Méndez and Celsa Albert Batista.

The International Book Fair 2013 will have Ecuador as its Guest of Honor; it will be dedicated to the illustrious Dominican writer Hilma Contreras, and will mark the bicentennial of the birth of Juan Pablo Duarte.

Also, there will be a special tribute to renowned Dominican poet Pedro Mir, to mark the centennial of his birth.

During the book fair, the street activitieswill take place every day starting at 10 a.m. and there will be street signs with the names of the honorees.

The street dedication will begin with a reading of the profile of the writer or distinguished personality being honored;then,theMinister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez andthe Director of Books and Reading, Valentín Amaro, will address the audience and will deliver the award scroll. And finally, the honored public figure will take the floor.

A courageous crew works hard building the booths, pavilions and standsin the Juan Pablo DuartePlaza de la Cultura, which will house all the libraries and meeting spaces that will serve as meeting points for the attendees who will participate in this celebration of art and reading, to be held from April 22ndto May 5th.
