Ministry of Culture presents award to the winners of the Xlll Emilio Aparicio International Theater The Ministry of Culture announced the winning plays at the XIII Emilio Aparicio International Amateur Theater Festival, which took place March 6 to 22. Winners in the various categories will receive cash prizes of 75, 50 and 25 thousand pesos. Cultural manager Basilio Nova, Director of the Emilio Aparicio Festival, chaired the event. He reiterated that the festival takes place every year under the sponsorships of the Ministry of Culture, with the objective of promoting amateur theater, encouraging drama in the country and to attract new audiences and talent for the performing arts. The event concluded with great success under the organization and coordination of the Emilio AparicioFestival.Fifteen national and three international theater companiesenthusiastically participated in the adult, children and youth theater categories. In the children’s category, “La ley del silencio, Bullying,” by Teatro Alternativo de Santo Domingo, wonfirst place; in the adult category, the first place went to the play “Yo, tu, el, cualquiera,” by Artistas Latinos Unidos en Nueva York (United Latin Artists in New York), of Santo Domingo. The second place in the children’s category went to the play “El Principito (The Little Prince),” by the Iván García y Avanty School TheaterCompany, of the Puerto Plata province.The second place in the adult category went to the play “Hay amores,” by the Naboría Theater Company, of Santo Domingo. Referring to the staging of the event, he appreciated the social reality contained in each of the plays, as well as the drama and the spectacular performancesby the casts of the participating national and international theater companies. The third place was awarded to “Cargamento de sueño,” by Grupo Fundación de Teatro Típode, of Santo Domingo, and to “Territorios,” by the H.M. Sombra del Teatro company, of Hato Mayor. The thirteenth edition of the festival was held in the framework of the commemoration of the bicentennial of the birth of Juan Pablo Duarte, as well as of the Dominican Theater Day and the International Theater Day. The festival was open to the students and the general public from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. It took placein the Monina Solá Theater Hall, of the Narciso González Cultural Center. The jury responsible for evaluating the winning plays was composed by theater producersReynaldo Disla, Elvis Polanco and Librada O’Neill. The following theater companies participated for the Dominican Republic:Teatro Camaraná, of Moca; H.M., Sombra de Teatro, of Hato Mayor; Teatro Chacuey, pf Dajabón; Fundación de Teatro Trípode, of Santo Domingo; Grupo de Teatro Unapec, of Santo Domingo; Grupo Escuela Iván García y Avanty, of Puerto Plata; Teatro X 2, of Santo Domingo; and Grupo de Teatro de la BIJRD(Dominican Republic Children and Youth Library), of Santo Domingo. Also, Teatro Néctar, of Puerto Plata; Teatro O&M, of Santo Domingo; Teatro Alternativo, of Santo Domingo; Teatro Huella Latina, of Santiago; Teatro UASD, of Valverde, Mao; Teatro Naboría, of Santo Domingo; and Artistas Latinos Unidos de Nueva York (United Latino Artists of New York). The international companies who participating were: Taller Teatral Colectivo Actoral, of Puerto Rico; Katupia Teatro, of Colombia; and Teatro La Bartola, of Argentina.
