4^th National Narrators Festival Held as Part of Book Fair

The 4^th National Narrators Festival was recently held as  part of the Inaugural Cycle of the XVI International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2013.The Narrators Festival was organized by Noé Zayas, director of the Ángeles de Fierro Publishing Company; Valentín Amaro, director of the Culture Ministry’s Books and Reading Department and Eulogio Javier, director the literary workshops.

This activity is held each year with the purpose of enabling Dominican writers to share their work with university students, graduates and the general public.

The event took place on April 5, 6 and 7 at the Continuing Education Center of the Nordestana Catholic University.

This part of the Festival was dedicated to Santa María Radio’s National Storytellers Contest where the past winners read their stories. They included: Omar Messón, Ramón Gil, Oscar Zazo, ValentínAmaro, Lady Laura Liriano, Héctor Santana, YunirisRamírez, Javier Rodríguez Diloné and Fernando Berroa.

The readings were held in the Continuing Education Center of the Nordestana Catholic University (UCNE) and the Episcopal, San Vicente, Altagracia, Renacimiento, Evangélico, Pedro Francisco Bonó and the Ercilia Pepín schools.

This year’s writers formed into groups and literary workshops known as the Narrators of Santo Domingo, Freddy GatónArce, Mariano LebrónSaviñón and Jueves Literario (Literary Thursdays).

The activity had the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Office of Press and Communication of the Presidency, the Nordestana Catholic University and the Regional University Center of the UASD.

Outstanding Dominican writers also participated in the event, including Manuel Salvador Gautier, César Zapata, RadhamésPolanco, Nan Chevalier, Eulogio Javier, Emelda Ramos, Roberto Sánchez, Yeyé Concepción, among others.
